Underground graffiti event unveils to the public for the first time in 5 yearsMeeting of Characters (in short, MOC, search facebook: Kuala Lumpur Meeting of Characters) was an underground graffiti event started in 2008 by Snozze and Violent, 2 graffiti artists who were passionate about creating characters and believes strongly in unique individual style. Along the way, they were joined with 3 more passionate comrades Bibichun (street artist), Escape (street artist) and Song (graphic designer). Prior to this ‘coming out’, MOC used to be held in under the radar places such as the river banks near Dato’ Keramat LRT station.
A group of like-minded artists will come together once a year to paint the river bank with characters.
MOC 5 (short for MOC 5th Anniversary) will feature 16 street artists showcasing their character graffiti design skills live in Publika (The Square) starting 10am. The artists are Bone, Burp, Chern, Damis, Donald, Escape, Kangblabla, Katun, Kenji, Medea, Monche, Orkibal, Pakey, Patox, reeze, Violent.
There will also be a graffiti contest among 4 secondary schools (SMK Assunta PJ, SMK La Salle PJ, SMK Bandar Baru Sg. Buloh and SMK Sek 17 Shah Alam). The grand prize winner will walk away with RM2,000 cash from Digi. This contest is in conjunction with Digi’s ‘Buddyz never apart’ campaign and the judge for the contest is Bone, an award-winning graffiti artist who has worked with several secondary schools before under the ‘Gempaknya my School!’ (search facebook: Gempaknya my school) project earlier this year.
Alongside with the graffiti fiesta, there will also be a bazaar-style urban culture showcase featuring Tarik Jeans, Abstrax Jinga, ‘Quit job, travel world, make art’ with Syahrulfikri Salleh, Canvas of Nature, Paul Airbrush, Phobia Klik.
Digi will be having their ‘tweet shop’ where the public can tweet, redeem freebies instantly and stand a chance to win exclusive local designer merchandizes (Tarik Jeans & Abtrax Jinga). Digi will also be presenting their latest collaboration with spoken words artist Jamal Raslan for the ‘Buddyz never apart’ campaign.
Another exciting activity that will be going on at the same time in the same place is the Feyst ’12 Youth Festival where there will be music gig performances and fund-raising for Mercy Malaysia.
