Songlap Poised To Conquer International Film Festivals

SONGLAP POISED TO CONQUER INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVALS

KUALA LUMPUR – SONGLAP, the critically lauded Malaysian film of 2011, has been selected to participate in two prestigious international film festivals – the Udine Far East Film Festival (“Udine FEFF”), Italy and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (“LA APFF”), USA.

SONGLAP will premiere at the 14th Edition of the Udine FEFF which will be held from 20 to 28 April. Launched in 1999, the Udine FEFF is organised by Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche (“C.E.C.”), a Cultural Association financed by the Italian Government, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, and the Udine Provincial and Municipal Authorities.

C.E.C. is dedicated to the public exhibition of quality cinema, by programming and managing five screens in three different venues across the city of Udine throughout the year. Past Malaysian films that were screened at Udine FEFF include Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam, Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang and Hantu Kak Limah Balik Rumah.
The following month, SONGLAP will take a bow at the 28th Edition of the LA APFF from 10 May through 20 May.

Visual Communications, a media arts center, established the LA APFF in 1983 as a vehicle to promote Asian and Asian Pacific American cinema; and has presented over 3,000 films and videos. In 2008, the multi award winning Malaysian film Flower in the Pocket, debuted at LA APFF.

Produced by Grand Brilliance and Red Films, and directed by husband and wife duo, Effendee Mazlan and Fariza Azlina Isahak, SONGLAP deftly probes into the lives of two brothers, portrayed by Shaheizy Sam and Shafie Naswip, who are tangled in an illegal human trafficking syndicate. Released on 15 December 2011, SONGLAP was screened in 77 theatres nationwide and was loudly acclaimed as Malaysia’s best film of 2011.
