Senheng and Samsung Award Malaysia’s Budding Shuttlers Badminton Scholarships
Guests at the Datuk Lee Chong Wei Sports Arena witnessed the introduction of 12 very special, talented badminton players of the Senheng-Samsung Junior Badminton Scholarship programme. The 12 young talents, aged between 13 to 19 years old, were awarded with a 3-year world-class badminton scholarship encompassing training sessions, mentoring, secured and comfortable accommodation, quality education and nutritional meals. The scholarship initially intended for 10 talents, has been extended to two more talents based on their outstanding performance throughout the championship and intensive training.
Present at the event were Mr. Lim Kim Heng, Managing Director of Senheng Electric (KL) Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director of Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Jack Koh, Managing Director of Looi Badminton Academy and Mr. Cheah Soon Kit, Chief Coach of the SS Junior Badminton Scholarship, former national doubles badminton ace.
The SS Junior Badminton Scholarship is jointly organised by Senheng and Samsung for the second consecutive year in nurturing young Malaysian aspirants to take on the footsteps of badminton star and world champion in the men’s single category, Datuk Lee Chong Wei. The scholarship programme has received recognition from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia. This joint partnership also led to Senheng and Samsung being listed in the Malaysia Book of Record for organizing the Largest Badminton Tournament.
Senheng’s Managing Director, Mr. Lim Kim Heng said, “Through this scholarship program, we hope to groom budding shuttlers to become global winners. We always believe with determination, hard work and a clear goal, one can overcome any obstacle and be the winner, be it in the business or sports arena.”

The top 12 players secured their place through the SS Junior Badminton Championship 2010 and 2011, which saw more than 1,300 participants and 2,300 participants respectively. In determining the talents, a two-and-a-half month filtration process which consisted of various rounds of rigorous and difficult competitions for the 140 finalists was conducted.

The event was officiated by a simple ‘closing serve’ by the 12 SS Junior Badminton Scholars, their Chief Coach, Mr. Cheah Soon Kit, Mr. KH Lim, Mr. Kwon and Mr. Jack Koh. It ended with a friendly badminton match between the Samsung, Senheng and the selected talents.
