LAW & ORDER HEADS TO HOLLYWOOD Seen First in Asia on Universal Channel

Malaysia, 9 February 2011 – Law & Order spots a new address as it moves to the west coast in its latest addition, Law & Order: Los Angeles.

Following exclusive premieres of the latest shows with the most buzz, such as The Event and Outsourced, Universal Channel once again brings another top- notch television event to Asian screens – Law & Order: Los Angeles.

Set against the distinctive backdrop of glitzy tinsel town, Law & Order: Los Angeles repeats the winning formula of the Law & Order legacy, fusing classic ripped- from-the-headlines storytelling with an in-depth, behind the scenes look of police detectives and district attorneys working on the high-profile crime cases.

Other than the riveting storylines, this latest installment also has a strong ensemble cast to boot, with Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow, Crash, Iron Man) and accomplished British actor, Alfred Molina (An Education, The Da Vinci Code, Spiderman 2) as the series mainstay.

The drama follows Detectives Rex Winters (Skeet Ulrich, Jericho, Scream) and Tomas “TJ” Jaruszalski (Corey Stoll, Midnight in Paris) as they pursue cases through the diverse City of Angels. As members of the Los Angeles Police Department’s elite Robbery Homicide Division, Winters is a straight-shooting ex-marine with a clear-cut world view as stubborn as he is, while “TJ,” who grew up the son of
an Oscar-winning Polish cinematographer, knows too well the dark underside that is behind-the-scenes Hollywood.

Deputy District Attorney Morales played by Alfred Molina is a sarcastic realist who believes moral righteousness is great in theory, but ineffective in a street fight. Though he knows how to manipulate both his public image and the behind-the-scenes politics, he is still a killer in the courtroom who lives to see justice served.

Law & Order: Los Angeles is a Dick Wolf Films production in association with Universal Media Studios. Wolf is creator and executive producer, Rene Balcer (Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Blake Masters (Brotherhood, Rubicon), Christopher Misiano (West Wing, ER) and Peter Jankowski (Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) are executive producers.

The perfect suburban life of Wisteria Lane with its flawlessly trimmed hedges, fancy cars and forthcoming neighbours is in for a chaotic season! Susan Delfino, Lynette Scavo, Bree Van de Kamp and Gabrielle Solis each face their own personal demons and face whole new challenges. From the everyday troubles of dinners to the escalating heights of a baby switch, and not to mention the new presence of a new housewife, every episode this season is promised to be packed with mystery, schemes, drama, suspense and joviality that will keep you “desperate” for more!
Each season we get a little closer to the residents of this close-knit community, as we witness their break ups, marriages, hurts, births, deaths, and celebrations.
In this season, Susan and Mike face great difficulties when their financial problems and are eventually forced to leave Wisteria lane. While Paige Scavo is the latest addition to the Scavo family, Tom’s postpartum depression and Lynette’s hectic schedule, causes her to hire Susan as her baby’s new nanny.
In the mean time, Bree has a hard time adjusting to being a single woman in her mid-fifties. Having just divorced Orson, she embarks on an attraction towards her handyman, Keith Watson, but has to deal with their age difference of 20 years!
Gabrielle on the other hand, goes on a frenzy search for her long lost daughter after having found out that Juanita isn’t really her daughter and that her real daughter had been switched at birth. But will happen to Juanita if she finds her real daughter? Will she give her up?
This season, Vanessa Williams brings new blood and vitality to the show as her character Renee Perry, is sure to steam things up on Wisteria Lane. Although, Lynette’s old college friend moves in across the street from her, Renee harbors a big secret. One that could possibly ruin Lynette and Tom’s relationship. What is it? With new twists and turns, the drama never seems to end in this pretty suburban neighbourhood.

A.R. Rahman wins Critics’ Choice Award for ’127 Hours’

MUMBAI (Reuters) – Bollywood’s A.R. Rahman picked up his first major award of the season on Friday, winning the Critics’ Choice Award for best original song in British filmmaker Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours”.

Rahman, 44, won for “If I Rise” in Boyle’s film about a trapped mountaineer resorting to desperate measures to free himself.

Rahman had earlier won the Golden Globe and two Academy Awards for his score in Boyle’s film “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008). He is also nominated for “127 Hours” at the Golden Globes which will be handed out on Jan 16 in Beverly Hills.

The Critics Choice honours are given out by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which includes some 250 TV, radio and online critics and is the largest group of film and TV reviewers in the United States and Canada.

Taken as a whole, critics awards often provide hints about which films, actors, actresses and others will compete for Oscars when they are given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, this year on February 27.

Last year’s winner of Critics’ Choice honors for best film and director, for instance, were war drama “The Hurt Locker” and its maker Kathryn Bigelow. Both went on to win Academy Awards in their respective categories.

Another AirAsia mission flight arrives at LCCT from Jeddah

KUALA LUMPUR, 8 FEBRUARY 2011 – AirAsia welcomed another flight from Jeddah today at 2.30pm with an Airbus A320 aircraft, making it nearly 3,000 Malaysians that has been ferried back successfully from Egypt by AirAsia.

Rising to the occasion to provide aide to Malaysians who are affected by the situation in Egypt, AirAsia has operated eight rescue flights from the Egyptian cities of Cairo and Alexandria to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. There was also one rescue flight from Jeddah to Kuala Lumpur. These rescue flights have been operating since Feb 3 to today, led by Deputy Group CEO of AirAsia Berhad, Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun.

Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun said, “AirAsia is proud to be part of this rescue operation and is glad to see that family members of those affected by the situation in Egypt can now have peace of mind that their loved ones are back safely. We will continue to closely monitor the situation in Egypt to determine whether to mount more rescue flights.”

AirAsia has actively extended its services to help people and communities in need, especially those in the ASEAN region. It mounted rescue flights from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur in November 2008 to help people stranded by the social unrest in Bangkok. It also mounted rescue flights between Padang and Jakarta in October 2009 to help those affected by the 7.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Sumatra island.
