TUNE TALK HIRES VIRAL VIDEOMAKER TO BOOST SOCIAL MEDIA INTERACTION

In an unprecedented move, Tune Talk has become the first Malaysian telco to hire its fans via the social media to help enhance interaction with subscribers and fans via the new media platform particularly Facebook and YouTube.

It all started in August when an anonymous fan called ‘tropicgang’ posted a video on YouTube featuring a beefy puppet character dedicated for Tune Talk’s second birthday. Aptly entitled ‘Who Like Confuse’, the video highlighted in a very entertaining way Tune Talk’s single subscription plan that is utterly simple, straightforward and transparent. It instantly caught the eyes of Tune Talk’s CEO, Jason Lo and Chairman Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and after a series of message exchanges on YouTube and Twitter, Jason and ‘tropicgang’ finally met and negotiations began behind closed doors.

Another video was recently released confirming that Tune Talk has hired ‘tropicgang’ to manage and interact with Tune Talk fans via Facebook and YouTube. ‘tropicgang’ has since agreed to create more ‘Mat Tune’ music videos, which will be released monthly from now until December 2011.

‘Tropicgang’ however wants to remain anonymous and prefers to be known by its character ‘Mat Tune’.

Talking about what he thought of the tribute video, Jason said: “Mat Tune broke away from the typical cover song format of a bedroom musician. Tony and I were impressed at its quirky mix of in-your-face humour, original scripting and creative use of puppets.”

The YouTube video was first brought to Tune Talk’s attention on 19 August 2011. Some magazines and bloggers discovered the video, posted it on their respective Facebook walls, and tagged Tune Talk. From there, the video quickly gained widespread attention, earning 5,000 views within a week, and sky-rocketing to over 24,000 views to date. Dubbed by Tune Talk’s Facebook fans as the ’tetek guys’, the tribute video is catchy and addictive. ’Who Like Confuse’ became an instant YouTube hit, sparking Jason to publicly search on Twitter for the fans who made the video.

“Mat Tune now is building his popularity and career since his “Who Like Confuse” music video became viral on YouTube. We have many interesting things planned for them. Social media has become a key channel of communication and that is why we have decided to hire “tropicgang” a.k.a. Mat Tune. We would like to use this new discovery to engage our fans with content that is relevant to them regardless of whether they are our subscribers or not. You don’t always have to sell people something, have a little fun derr! ” said Jason Lo.

Fans can now look forward to more quirky music videos, fun interaction and surprise rewards with “Mat Tune” by following him on Tune Talk’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/tunetalk

FIGHT THE FIVE CAUSES OF SWEAT

Rexona empowers Malaysians with the truth behind light movement, heat, stress, humidity and emotions

• Six out of ten Malaysians do not use deodorant.
• 65% of Malaysians often joke about their friends’ body odour but the brutal truth is that they are actually serious about it.
• The five causes of sweat (light movement, heat, stress, humidity and emotions) are inevitable in people’s daily routines and have a silent effect without them realising it

Petaling Jaya, 29 September 2011 – Sweat breaking can be heartbreaking. The No Sweat Survey commissioned by Rexona has showed that 65% of Malaysians often joke about their friends’ body odour but the brutal truth is that they are actually serious about it. In addition, a staggering 60% of people would hold their breath rather than confronting one’s unpleasant smell. However, many still believe that they don’t sweat and are unaffected by body odour.

Rexona, the world’s number one deodorant, took the lead to improve Malaysians’ understanding on sweat and its consequences through an experiential platform. The event themed “Don’t Sweat It with Rexona” was organised to unearth the five causes of sweat and to break the twisted myths of body odour. It is also with hope that this will give rise to a re-evaluation of one’s personal care regime.

“In Malaysia, six out of ten people do not use deodorant. Many people think that they are not susceptible to sweat due to their sedentary lifestyle and cool air-conditioned workplaces. This is far from true. Sweat is caused by the fluctuations in emotion, temperature and physical movement. These factors are inevitable in people’s daily routines and have a silent effect without them realising it,” said Chin Chern Yen, Brand Manager for Rexona at Unilever (M) Holdings Sdn. Bhd.

Sweat itself is odourless. However, it triggers body odour when it comes in contact with the bacteria that naturally live on human skin. These bacteria break down sweat and body odour is the by-product of this process. A small amount of perspiration is all it takes to expose individuals to the risk of body odour.

“Research has shown that a person is unable to detect one’s own odour. Worse, your friends are embarrassed to tell you about it. Body odour is undesirable. It brings upon social embarrassment and negatively impacts one’s confidence. Hence, it is imperative for everyone to take preventive measures to fight against it,” Chin added.

“Through this experiential discovery, we hope to inspire more people into reconsidering their daily personal care practices. Being 100% odour-free is the key to unbeatable confidence to handle their daily challenges and achieve their wildest endeavours,” Chin concluded.

Don’t Sweat It with Rexona was geared to offer guests an experiential platform to uncover the five causes of sweat. Five stations were customised to signify light movement, heat, stress, humidity and emotions.

Guests were seen doing simple kicks, strikes and punches at the Kinect games station. Next to it, we saw guests posing for Polaroid shots at the simulated setting of sun and beach while others were spotted releasing stress by punching an inflatable doll. Not very far away, the rest were indulging in a hand massage at the humidity zone. The night was put to a perfect end by an emotional ride through the movie Dream House.

Sweat and body odour can be triggered as easily as it can be prevented. Guests left knowing that staying odour-free, fresh and confident all day long is no longer an impossible feat.
