On 12 August 2008, the 501st MALAYSIA-BRUNEI OUTPOST joined by representatives from the 501st SINGAPORE GARRISON, will be celebrating the Special Premiere screening of THE CLONE WARS movie in true intergalactic style at GSC, MidValley Megamall.  Our appearance is going to bring forth 6 characters from the STAR WARS Original Trilogy – Darth Vader, Stormtrooper, Snowtrooper Commander “Salji”, Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot, Imperial Navy Officer and AT-ST Driver and 2 characters from the STAR WARS Prequels and Expanded Universe – Emperor’s Royal Guard and Royal Guardsman “Kir Kanos”.  It will be a truly awesome experience for local celebrities, lucky fanboys and fangirls to have the opportunity to mingle around and take pictures with 501st members in their detailed costumes and props, looking as if they just stepped off the STAR WARS movies and comic books into GSC, MidValley.

About the 501st Legion and the 501st MALAYSIA-BRUNEI OUTPOST

According to the Commanding Officer, Peter Lai a.k.a. Snowtrooper Commander “Salji”, we are the local chapter of the 501st Legion who “occupied” Malaysia and Brunei for the “Galactic Empire” from the STAR WARS movies.  As mentioned in the Official Websites of the 501st Legion at www.501stlegion.org and 501st MALAYSIA-BRUNEI OUTPOST at www.501stmyscififan.com, the 501st Legion is a worldwide STAR WARS costuming organization comprised of and operated by Star Wars fans.  While it is not sponsored by Lucasfilm Ltd., it is Lucasfilm’s preferred Imperial costuming group.

We are proud to be members of a large worldwide family who, as at 10 August 2008, has 4,250 active members worldwide with 6,241 costumes of various STAR WARS villains, Sith Lords and aliens who allied themselves with the Galactic Empire.  The 501st Legion is officially recognized by the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records (in Page 174) as the “Largest Star Wars Costume Group” in Planet Earth.  The 501st Legion can trace its humble beginnings back to 1997 when, Abin Johnson the Legion Founder and his buddy Tom Crews, dressed up as Stormtrooper to thrill the crowd and fans when the STAR WARS Trilogy Special Edition movies were released in May 1997.  Since then this internet based STAR WARS costuming group has continued to grow and grow until we now “occupy” 45 countries in 6 Continents on Planet Earth for the “Galactic Empire” and “Sith Order”!

Each member of the 501st MALAYSIA-BRUNEI OUTPOST is basically a STAR WARS fan at heart, but has taken our interests to the next level.  Instead of just content with collecting action figures and paraphernalia of our favorite STAR WARS villains, we become them instead when put on our 501st Legion approved costumes and troop in public!

Our members are based in Peninsular Malaysia and Brunei where we currently have 14 active members in our ranks.  But with the fresh STAR WARS hype generated by the release of THE CLONE WARS movie, followed by THE CLONE WARS TV Series and STAR WARS Live Action TV Series next year, who knows how many new faces we will soon have joining our ranks?

The 501st Legion Celebrates THE CLONE WARS movie Worldwide

The presence of the 501st MALAYSIA-BRUNEI OUTPOST and our guests from the 501st SINGAPORE GARRISON in THE CLONE WARS Special Premiere Screening on 12 August 2008 is just the tip of the iceberg.  Our BRUNEI based members will be doing their round of THE CLONE WARS Movie trooping on 14 and 15 August 2008 at The Mall Cineplex.  Worldwide, from 8 August to 29 August, our 501st Legion brothers and sisters from US, South and Central Americas, UK, Europe, Australia and Asia (Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Japan) will be celebrating THE CLONE WARS movie premieres in style. This something that the 501st Legion do BEST, to excite the multitudes of STAR WARS fans young and old alike.

Message By George Carlin Comedian of the 70′s and 80′s

Isn’t it amazing that George Carlin – comedian of the 70′s and 80′s – could write something so very eloquent…and so very appropriate.

A Message by George Carlin:

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things.

We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete…

Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, ‘I love you’ to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
