Once again, Astrio Entertainment brings to Malaysia the unique experience of filmmaking direct from Hollywood. Expanding this year’s seminar into a 3 day whirlwind event, the Asia Film Week is intended for anyone and everyone with a passion for film and the art of filmmaking which will be held on 13-15 November 2009 at National Arts Culture and Heritage Academy (ASWARA).

Astrio, a MSC status Company, has been involved in organizing and promoting events and seminars with regards to film production for several years and in 2002, launched an annual event with the aim of lifting the standards of Malaysian & Asian filmmaking and introducing to the local and Asian fraternity the methodologies, technical advancements and innovations from Hollywood.
This year’s Asia Film Week brings together a one of a kind line-up of Hollywood’s best directors, producers, cinematographers, special and visual effects gurus who will conduct intensive seminars and hand-on workshops in their areas of expertise.
The focus of these seminars and workshops include technical know-how, in depth analysis and a practical guide to the intricacies of the various aspects of filmmaking. Stripped of all jargon and pretensions, the Asia Film Week will be a jam-packed, adrenaline fueled, networking platform, rapid fire instructive on the schematics of great filmmaking.

Among the prominent filmmaking gurus participating this year are industry stalwarts Michael Watkins, Emmy and Golden Globe award winning director of such series as PRISON BREAK, LAS VEGAS, MONK, DIRTY SEXY MONEY, CSI, AMERICAN DREAMS; Visual effects pioneer Jeff Barnes, G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA, NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2, WOLVERINE, SEVEN POUNDS, IRON MAN and Dov Simens, renowned as America’s No. 1 film instructor graduates include QUENTIN TARANTINO, CHRIS NOLAN, GUY RITCHIE, WILL SMITH, QUEEN LATIFAH.
Also along for this roller coaster ride into filmmaking is the innovative Elliot Grove, founder of the RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL and BRITISH INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS; Eric Hanson, visual effects designer THE FIFTH ELEMENT, BICENTENNIAL MAN, CAST AWAY, HOLLOW MAN, MISSION TO MARS, SPIDER-MAN, ATLANTIS; special effects guru, Todd Masters THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, WHILE SHE WAS OUT, MARLEY & ME; Raymond Massey, Producer, KICKIN IT OLD SKOOL, YOU KILL ME, GRAY MATTERS, IRON ROAD); Doug Smith EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING, OUTLANDER FILMS and the game TOMB RAIDER VII; along with critically acclaimed and award winning cinematographer Peter Wunstorf, SMALLVILLE, MILLENNIUM, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, HOLLOWMAN 2, THE FINAL CUT.

This year’s event also introduces two new inclusions, namely the Film Screening and the Short Film Script Writing Contest.
Both these inclusions are open to the public and the Film Screening categories are Feature Film (Non-Documentary), Full Length Documentary, Best Short Film and Best Film (Made in Malaysia) while the winner of the Short Film Script Writing Contest will win the opportunity to have their script made into a feature film. The theme for the Short Film Script Writing Contest has been decided as “1MALAYSIA”

The objectives of the Asia Film Week is three pronged, the expansion of knowledge of those already embroiled in the ever-evolving world of filmmaking, the exposition of new inductees to the world of filmmaking and the provision of a forum for exposition and exhibition of new international talent and the creation of awareness of existing Asian talent. At heart, the one basic aim of this event is the bringing together of people from all walks of life with one passion, filmmaking.
There has been no other seminar or film event that combines and brings together a pool of Hollywood personalities, resources, award-winning and acclaimed talents in the filmmaking industry with the intention of expanding, complementing and sharing with each other the ideologies, methods and essence do filmmaking towards creating a global conscience to be reflected in one out greatest mediums of influence, film.
For the past four years, Astrio has worked closely with Primeworks Studios (previously known as Grand Brilliance) to organize Asia Film Week, and this year is no different. Primeworks Studios is passionate in developing the local content industry, and this successful partnership allows both parties to bring in their own experience, network and talent to ensure a better and experience for all participants of Asia Film Week. “We are very happy with this collaboration as we are committed to helping our Malaysian film industry grow, and we will continue to work together to ensure that we can reach out to fresh talent and grow to even greater heights,” says Farisha Pawanteh, Chief Operating Officer of Primeworks Studios.
To ensure that this programme is successfully implemented with the highest standards, we are also working in collaboration with National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and with partnership with Akademi Seni Budaya & Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA), Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture (KPKK).
