ANAK WAYANG TO SHAKE LOCAL DRAMA INDUSTRY
A platform for new talents on Astro RIA and Astro PRIMA
Kuala Lumpur, 24 March 2009 – In line with Astro’s commitment to develop the Malaysian entertainment industry with a sustainable pool of multi-talented Malaysians, we will be introducing a project which will bound to shake the local drama industry; ANAK WAYANG which will start its journey this April in search for potential actor or actresses!
According to Executive Director of Astro Entertainment Sdn Bhd (AESB); Encik Zainir Aminullah, “Ever since Astro had started to introduce popular reality programme such as Akademi Fantasia, we were able to discover stars such as Vince, Zahid, Mawi, Mila, Stacy and also versatile comedian through Raja Lawak Astro such as Nabil, Johan, Zizan and the latest addition would be Sepah, our newly crowned champion. Astro has a formula driven in its journey to deliver these reality programme champion whom are not to be taken lightly as their emergence serve as a big impact to the local entertainment industry.
Hence, we are confident that it is time that Astro should be delivering yet another star whom shines; this time in the local drama industry. This launching of the project will bear the company’s hope to make Astro the main destination of the best local dramas under the umbrella of Astro Megadrama. We are positive that Anak Wayang will be able to provide an extraordinary quiver to the local drama industry through the new ideas and talents which will soon be introduced.”
The Anak Wayang project will be generated by two channels which will be working together namely; Astro RIA (Channel 104) and Astro PRIMA (Channel 105) which will each be airing the reality programme of the search for talent and the drama series where both will be on a simultaneous beat.
The Anak Wayang project which will be carried by the two channels will see contestants competing to pursue the five characters namely a nurse, mechanic, event organizer, gangster and secretary for the drama – Kecuali Cintamu which will be aired on Astro Prima at the same time.
Every week, the contestants will be taught on acting skills under the supervision of a panel of experienced trainers in the world of acting field. The panel of juries will evaluate the contestant’s performance and will only choose the best two contestants to move forward. This two contestants fate will be determine by SMS votes and in order to know the SMS results, audience will have to watch the drama on Astro PRIMA on a weekly basis.
Encik Zainir added on,”The uniqueness of this project is that we are looking out for the nominees to hold the five main characters in the drama series on a weekly basis. These five characters will have to maintain their acting quality in the drama series on Astro Prima as three of the characters will be ‘killed’ and audiences will be given a chance to choose only one whom is qualified to be called Anak Wayang through sms votes.
We believe that this Anak Wayang project will be able to attract the attention of performing arts lovers. In addition, the future champion will automatically receive an offer to star in a 130 episodes drama series on Astro Prima.”
Best actor in 20th Malaysia Film Festival; Rusdi Ramli and the most promising actress in 17th Malaysia Film Festival; Fazura will take turns to host the programs which details will be announced on a separate occasion.
For those who are interested to stand a chance to be crowned the first Anak Wayang on Astro Platform, you are invited to attend the audition sessions at the following states:

The contest is open to all Malaysians age between 18-35 years old who are not tied up with a contract with any drama production house or artist manager. Those who are interested will have to bring along a photocopy I.C and two (2) 4R picture (profile picture and waist level) and impress the judges with your spontaneous acting skill.
Anak Wayang project will start airing on Astro RIA on 22nd May 2009. Further details in regards to the programme will be announced on a later date.
